Sounds like a homework assignment. You should actually do the reading and research, but I'll suggest the following hardware/software:
Server running Windows 2003 Server Standard R2 (with 20 CAL's) and serving as a Domain Controller w/ DHCP, DNS
Microsoft Office XP (2002)
Cisco or Linksys 24 port Switch
TCP/IP Protocol of course!
As for the server and client machines, that depends on your budget and if the manufacturer or distributer gives special pricing for schools.
