Some of it has to do with the adverage person tends to acumulate alot of things that are running weather you turn the program on or not, this sort of things can't happen as much on Video Game Consols because they clear everything when turned off or Cell Phones since they run in a simiar manor to VGCs, just with the phone and other functions hard wired in it.

Technology is upgrading rapidly...you can always have MORE, more RAM, more HD space, more CPU speed, you can only overclock so far ;)
let me guess, your pretty young and dont know jack about computers or software.
1st of all. it depends on what you want to do with the computer.
if your a businessman and thats all you do with it, then you have very little to worry about every having to upgrade.
But if you are a gamer,
Graphics get better and need more processing
More and more Hard Drive space is needed as games get bigger
CPU's cant always handle the newest games
games sometimes need major amount of memory
