Steps to hook up 2 computers to internet?

If I have 2 computers I want hooked up to the internet, how can I do this? I have a Comtrend CT-301 Modem hooked up to the computer running the internet connection now, and a D-Link DI-604 Ethernet Router.. I need steps on how to set up the connection

Well, its not hard

Ethernet from Modem to WAN/Internet on router

Ethernet from router LAN ports to computer!

Follow the setup directions for the router. and you should be connected. Once working just plug in the second computer.

BUT check with your ISP first, I suspect the Comtrend is actually a router itself! In which case all you need is a switch! Another router will cause real problems!

Call you ISP to SEE!!!

Quick search on DSL reports shows it is issuing 10.0.0.x addresses.. those are NATed addresses pointing to a router?

Mandy, didn't the instructions come with the D-Link DI-604 Router? You don't have them? Okay. The modem cable that's going to your computer plugs into the WAN port on your router. Then an ethernet cable comes out of Port 1 to your first computer, and Port 2 to the second one. A WAN key has to be set for the second one. The D-Link may do it automatically, or you may have to do it manually,(go into Internet Connections) Internet information is coming in to your router, the WAN key has an 'address' for your first computer, directing the information to it. If it didn't have this key, the information wouldn't know where to go, it would just 'return mail/wrong address'. Same applies for the second computer.
