I dont know much about computers...but I can go around in them well....I just got a new computer and still have my old one...I want to link my old one to my new though the simplest way.

There a several ways that would work all of which have been listed here. The cheapest and easiest would be to use an ethernet crossover cable between the two computers. You can purchase one of these cables at Wal-Mart or a variety of other stores that sell computer equipment. Plug the cable to the network card of both computers then set the address of the card as follows:

On computer one open the control panel, open network settings and then right click the network connection for that computer and select properties. Scroll down and highlight Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click properties. Enter the IP address 192.168.0.1, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, and then click ok.

On computer two follow the same steps but enter the IP address 192.168.0.2, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 and then click ok.

With the cable connected you should be able to access the machines.

If you've got more than two computers a switch would be the best solution. There are a large variety of switches available from many retailers so just pick one that is inexpensive or simply meets your needs. You will also require ethernet cables for each of these computers. Do not get crossover cables though as these will require a standard, straight-through cable. Just set the IP address on each of the computers using a similar address by just incrementing the last digit of the IP address.
